Photo’s of trip to Washington D.C. and Civil War towns.
March 30, 2008 Personal Thoughts, Photography, Visited Sites in Virginia, Visited Sites outside VA 1 CommentWell, my daughter got better and we left on Tuesday to go to Washington, DC and Baltimore. It was the trip from “Hell” and we got back on Friday night having not done one thing that we set out to do but seeing a lot and hoping to learn more over the next few days. It is 3AM now and I am still cropping photo’s and thinking about what I want to say. I will get back to you as soon as I can. Don’t forget about me because you are definitely going to hear about what happened and see some awesome pictures of the fire that is in Augusta County, VA.
OK, I AM READY TO TELL YOU ABOUT OUR TRIP!!!!!
My dear daughter had been sick with some gosh awful cold/virus and I wasn’t sure we were even going to be able to go. We had paid $132 for 3 tickets to the Baltimore Aquarium for Thursday, March 27th, 2008 at 8:15 in the morning. We were going to go on the Gallery Tour which would have let us get up close and personal to the fish and see them feed everything there. It was before the Aquarium even opened and we would be the only 3 with a guide from there. I had it all planned in my mind and then dear daughter got sick. I gave her until Tuesday afternoon to feel better and sure enough she did. So we got all packed and were planning on leaving at 4am on Wednesday morning to go first to Washington D.C. and do the tourist thing there for that day and then that night go on to Myranda’s aunts house near Baltimore where we would stay for the next week.
At 11pm Tuesday night Myranda was ready to go to bed and she said she would pack the car the next morning. At 5am I was up and ready to go and could not get her nor dear daughter up. Around 6:30 they finally woke up and we were off and sitting at McDonald’s on Rt. 460 at 8:30am…3 1/2 hours later than we were going to leave. Myranda was not feeling well but she said she would be fine. Gawd, if she had only told me how sick she was a lot of heartache and tension would have been stopped before it was started.
A little background information about me. I have never been north of Harrisonburg, VA in my life and except for trips to Myrtle Beach and a choir trip when I was younger to Tennessee and Georgia, the only states I have been to were West Virginia (the coal mines-last year), North Carolina, and South Carolina to Myrtle Beach. I guess now I see that I am definitely a small town girl living in a lonely world. hahaha
I had done the Mapquest thing taking us to Independence Ave. in D.C. by way of small towns, thinking this would give us more to see and look at since I have never really traveled.
We got up to near White’s Truck Stop on Interstate 81 and got off to go the backroads. We noticed there was a fire on the mountain there but at that time it was not so big. Smoke was all around the mountain but it didn’t look as bad as it is at this time or was on our way back home Friday night. The fire was in Augusta County near a small town called Vesuvius. We didn’t pay that much attention to it that day because we were on our way to D.C. Myranda was asleep in the car and red as a beat. I knew she was sick. I should have turned around. I can kick myself now for not doing it but she kept saying she would be OK.
The first pictures we took that day was on Afton Mountain at the VDOT Memorial. It was very pretty there and I got some good shots as you can see below.
Of course, by now, I hope you know to click on the small thumbnail and then it will take you to another page and you can click on that bigger image to take you to the full size of the photo.
***Will be back tomorrow to add more to the blog…but will leave you with some pictures of the Augusta County Fire from Friday March 28th, 2008
